Philadelphia hockey league formed
1908
Men’s field hockey first played at the London Olympic Games (U.S. does not compete)
1920
The first U.S. Women’s Touring Team competes internationally in England
1922
USFHA officially formed and the constitution unanimously accepted
1923
Constance Applebee opens Tegawitha Hockey Camp in Mt. Pocono, PA, the first field hockey camp in the U.S.
1924
USFHA Umpiring Committee begins rating officials
1927
- International Federation of Women’s Field Hockey established
- First recorded game of U.S. men’s field hockey (Germantown Cricket Club vs. Westchester Biltmore)
- Field Hockey Association of America founded
1930
FHAA joins the Federation International de Hockey (FIH)
1932
U.S. Men compete in their first Olympic Games in Los Angeles
1967
First Pan Am Games to include men's field hockey-U.S. Team wins bronze medal
1974
First Women’s World Cup
1980
Women’s Field Hockey added to the Olympic Games, U.S. Teams boycott the Moscow Olympics and do not compete.
1981
University of Connecticut hosts the first NCAA Field Hockey Championship
1984
U.S. Women take bronze medal at the Los Angeles Olympic Games.
1993
FHAA and USFHA merge and are recognized as one national governing body for the sport of field hockey.
